Jack Burton | roots rock rambler & soul supporter
Forged in the fires of Austin, Texas’ diverse live music scene, Jack Burton has emerged a powerful and beloved Roots Rock/Americana singer and songwriter. Described as something of a “cross between Nathaniel Rateliff and Marc Broussard,” Jack’s deep affinity for the musical heritage of the southern United States is unmistakable, both in his addictively engaging live performances and on his previously released EPs.
His first release, I Think You Know, offers a high-energy musical experience with the raw soulful power of Jack’s voice and the deep pocket grooves of his stellar 9-piece band known as the Jack Burton Trio. The EP keeps you vibing with sexy upbeat tracks you can move to, like Green Eyed Girlie and Feel Alright, while also giving you a peek into Jack’s moodier spiritual side on Falling Away.
Burton’s sophomore release Soul is an earthy and uplifting mix of originals and legendary gospel covers, loaded with heart and greasy southern grit. The album’s compelling vocals, swampy rhythms, and a seemingly endless supply of hooks and dirty guitar riffs bring a touch of nostalgia via stirring versions of Mahalia Jackson’s Come On Children, Let’s Sing and Lord, Search My Heart. Burton confirms his right to a place among the greats with relatable originals like Souland Not What I Expected.
After spending some time focused on live shows and touring in Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Spain and Texas, both as a headliner and as support for acts such as Hannah Williams & the Affirmations, Knower, Cory Morrow, Magna Carda, Shinyribs, Mingo Fishtrap, and four-time Grammy® Award-winning multi-platinum band Third Day, Jack Burton is back in the studio. With that solid southern work ethic, he’s grinding away to bring us new material that aims to shine a little light into the dark corners of personal struggle, the world’s troubles, acceptance, and the experiences of life as a stranger traveling through new cultures. Jack’s new project is an intriguing blend of gritty Roots Rock and toe-tapping Southern Soul, with a few exotic touches to reflect that glint of sun sparkling on the Mediterranean Sea. Deal with the Devil and Time for Love are the first of many new songs Jack has released to promote as he hits the road with a jangly guitar and a heart full of hope and love, reminding us to take care of each other no matter our differences.
